Last night I came across the above article in my local paper, the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.
I found the article rather amusing! I would tend to agree that the trend of food photography is on the rise as is the posting of pictures of food on social media sites. Many of my friends have more recently started taking photos of their lunch or dinner only to show them to others or post them on facebook.
I am sure many of my fellow food bloggers will chuckle a bit when reading as this is something we have been doing for a long long time. I must admit that at times I do feel rather conspicuous taking photos in a restaurant however, I do hope that the chef will see it as a compliment and that the venue will be pleased with some free publicity!
What are your views on the article? Do you think that taking photos in restaurants can be negative as they do not capture the food in the way the chef intended? Do you take photos of the food you are served or do you find it really annoying if people at the table next to you are clicking away?

i have been wondering for a long time about the same question – does anybody actually enjoy looking at someone else’s lunch from yesterday?

You know what, strange as it is I actualy do!! It gives me ideas for recipes to try out or can recommend a restaurant/cafe to try out just by one picture. I find what other people eat interesting – maybe it is just because I am a little obsessed with good food and cooking lol!

I try not to snap photos in public, partly to let others around me dine in peace, and partly because I don’t usually have my camera with me, and an iPhone 3GS doesn’t take great pictures in dim restaurant lighting. 🙂
That said, I’m always happy to see photos of delicious-looking food!

I know what you mean…I tend not to take photos if I am out for dinner with anyone other than my boyfriend as I feel it can ruin an atmosphere! My photography needs a lot of work and Im def no expert with a camera but I also agree that an iPhone just wont cut it at times.

Well, I am used to taking photos of my food. I´ve been doing it for over 7 years! At first I only took photos of my food, then my parents’ and finally my husband. More recently I have been diminishing my food-photo-shyness and even taking photos of my friend’s food. They now I have a food blog, so they don`t mind. Doing it helps me tell me of good restaurants to try, or which restaurants run away from!

Exactly! Completely agree!
